Systemic Family Constellations |
| What are systemic family constellations? Popular in Europe for over 20 years, Systemic Constellation Work is an innovative approach, quickly becoming well known and utilized in the United States. Based upon the Family Constellation work of Bert Hellinger, a renowned German psychotherapist, Systemic Constellation Work can reveal hidden dynamics from past generations of our family systems. Referred to as ‘entanglements’, these dynamics have an unconscious, compelling power that can enmesh us in fates that do not belong to us. Sometimes dating back several generations, to family ancestors who were unable to resolve difficulties within their lives, these dynamics may reappear in our own lives. Through unconscious loyalties to our family systems, we soul bond with other family members, becoming ‘entangled’ in their fates and living out their difficulties ourselves. Through Systemic Constellation Work, these ancestral influences are identified and acknowledged. The ‘blind love’ which has been influencing our lives can be transformed into ‘enlightened love’. Once this occurs, the associated emotional and physical suffering can be gently and compassionately transformed, bringing peace, renewing strength and allowing us to move forward in our lives with grace and dignity. | ![]() Like a river, life flows only forward... |

| What does constellation work entail?
Most constellation work is done in a day-long or weekend workshop setting. Trained constellation facilitators assist participants in setting up and working through their individual constellations. While a workshop may include any number of participants (usually 10 to 30), a constellation itself includes only representatives chosen from among the participants by the client whose constellation is currently being arranged. The facilitator, assited by the client, works with the chosen representatives to identify, acknowledge and honor the dynamics that present themselves within the constellation. An interesting note about constellation work is that representatives in a constellation often find their own issues revealed and resolved simply by participating in another's constellation. The work is done confidentially, with a profound respect for all involved- the client, the representatives, and the family system. |
